Lesson 19 - Financial Sobriety Holiday Boundaries
Dec 14, 2023We are officially in the thick of it!
It's 11 days until we have what I like to refer to as the "big dance".
I love the holiday season, I actually don't love Christmas day.
It's a lot of expectations which are also called "resentments in waiting".
We for sure don't need anger and resentment around us during the holiday season.
What are some ways you can ensure that you take some steps to take care of you this holiday?
A huge part of having Financial Sobriety is looking after ourselves, when we look after ourselves we are looking after our money.
Here are some things that I have thought of to help take care of you this year:
Put things in place so you actually can enjoy your holiday season this year.
Do you need to invite over all those people you are pressured too?
Do you need to buy gifts for alllllll the people?
What are some things that you want to do this year, don't think about everyone else. What is one thing you want to do? Put yourself at the top of the list!
Think of things you can do to conserve your energy in the next 3 weeks.
When you think of holidays past, what are the biggest things that wear you out?
Do you actually have to go grocery shopping? Can someone else do it for you? Can you order online and get it delivered (ps, this also saves you more money if you are already exhausted as you aren't mindlessly shopping!).
How has your sleep been? Can you stick to a sleep schedule in the next few weeks to keep you rested? if your not sleeping well can you schedule in a nap? YES, the answer is YES YOU CAN!
What is one thing on your list someone else can do for you?
How often do you say No? No to financial obligations? Social obligations? Societies obligations?
What can you take OFF your list? Maybe you don't think anyone can help you with your list, but maybe you can just take it right off your list.
Is there an event that you are just dreading, let them know you can't come. You don't owe anyone a reason on why you can't make it but "something has come up" is always a good non answer but an answer. You can change your mind. You don't have to go.
How are you going to look after you and your money this year?
Notice a lot of my suggestions are things you shouldn't do? This is on purpose.
We wear ourselves so thin this time of year. It's time to take our energy back and actually enjoy ourselves.
I can't wait to hear how it went!
